Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix canariensis)
The Canary Island Date palm is regarded as one of the world's most beautiful and majestic trees, and is an ideal specimen for transplanting.
The Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix canariensis), native to the Canary Islands off north-eastern Africa, has been widely planted throughout the world in parks, holiday resorts, and along coasts and boulevards.
Growing to some 20m or 60ft tall, the Canary Island Date palm is very imposing with its distinctive trunk and immense crown.
This hardy palm is long lived but very slow growing when young. It is suitable for warm to tropical climates and will tolerate some frost and drought.
Many specimens exist in private residences, however, they generally become troublesome due to their massive size and are consequently transplanted in more suitable locations.
